Derick F. Davis PhD

I am Assistant Professor of Marketing at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, and I received my PhD from Virginia Tech in 2013. I was previously a faculty member at the University of Miami. Broadly, my research interests center on how consumers process written information (text and numbers), and how processing errors related to written information influence evaluations and behaviors. I also research pricing and received an Emerging Scholar Award in Retail and Pricing by the AMA Retail and Pricing SIG. I was also named a 2019 MSI Young Scholar. My research has been published at the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Retailing, and Judgment and Decision Making. I am a first generation college student, and received my Bachelor's degree from Kettering University (formerly General Motors Institute) in Industrial Engineering in 2004 and my M.B.A. from Boise State University in 2006. I have worked in the automotive, pharmaceutical, and consumer packaged goods industries before pursuing my Doctoral degree. I have lived in Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Michigan, Idaho, Colorado, Florida, and Virginia. I enjoy hiking, biking, motorcycles, food/cooking, and travel among a variety of other interests.
